Disco duck
Bust out the roller skates and pick the ‘fro–you’re invited to a disco ball. San Francisco DJ Julius Papp returns to Next Door this weekend for a stint at the table that, if his last performance is any indication, will be a study in the perfect fusion of classic disco and house.
The Montreal native is best known for his love of 1970s disco and ’80s new wave, but he’s not afraid to mix up his mixes–he’s been known to throw down a Latin or jazz beat.
ND’s Friday night Pacific Standard party starts with Rome’s queen of down tempo house, DJ Silvana. The resident DJ drops super mellow remixes of Sade, Thievery Corporation and other ethnojazz acts. Picking things up a bit and setting the stage for Papp, is house beats guy DJ Ira.
Go early for cheap drinks and Free Jazz with local jazz cats Maria Remos and the Intricate Mediums.
