Packo man
DJ Packo / A rush of new experiences and opportunities kept DJ Packo creatively inspired in 2009.
While his status among Hawaii’s turntablist elite was only enhanced in the year just gone by, the official DJ for the 808’s premiere emcee (Creed Chameleon) and top hip-hop band (The Spacifics) has been making his fair share of power moves lately.
Expansion throughout the Chinatown get-down district and numerous gigs outside of “hip-hop” exclusive parameters proved that doing what you do and avoiding other’s trendy tendencies can equate to singular success.
Beyond the notoriety, Packo’s boldest statement of ’09, other than finally picking up a Serato box, came with the release of Aqua Dust, an all in-one dubstep-meets-turntablism mixtape masterpiece.
“Making music is always an enjoyable experience,” said Honolulu Weekly’s unofficial-official DJ of the Year. “The act of creating, constructing and actualizing a new idea is just a part of the pleasant things in life. Some call it a gift and a curse, but I nurture perfectionism.”
With an outlook on higher progression and goals such as “Being resourceful, staying humble and searching to find a legacy,” Twenty-ten should only affirm that the beast of ill beats has only scratched the surface, innocent ears and naïve minds prepare for the inevitable; from the realms of boom bap and beyond.
