La vache jolie
on your face / Who needs botox when you can smooth the cells of a pregnant cow onto your face? Well, now that a salon treatment that involves using bovine stem cells has found its way to Honolulu, you can do both.
Representatives for Helen’s Haven say the Kilauea Avenue salon is the only spot on the island where customers can get the so-called cryo-stem cell therapy, which uses cells extracted from the amniotic fluid of a pregnant cow–an organically-fed pregnant cow from France, no less.
Apparently, this process occurs early enough during the cow’s pregnancy that the cells don’t have DNA specific to the animal’s genetic composition–but do have the DNA information that allows them to convert into human genetic composition, thus repairing skin cells.
So maybe it sounds more like a science experiment than a beauty treatment (and it’s not cheap: $750 for six sessions, though you can pick up the “stem-cell stick” for $200), but unusual and somewhat extreme beauty procedures are not only commonplace but, for some, status symbols.
We have to say that, if forced to choose, we’d probably opt for the pregnant French cow treatment over injecting neurotoxins into our foreheads. Then again, why get rid of your wrinkles at all when they show how much you like to smile?
