Greenfleet Hawaii / We know there is much necessary environmental action to be taken, but it can be difficult to know where to begin. Enter: Greenfleet Hawaii, a new resource for environmentally minded Hawaii residents. The site encourages a greener and healthier lifestyle by making it all easier. It organizes recycling drop-off points, encourages carpooling with online resources and prizes, and creates imaginative–yet simple–campaigns.
Take the “Tread for Bread” program, for example: participants track the distance of every walk, run or hike and log that data into the pedometer application, which then converts and stores the number of calories burned. At the end of each quarter the total number of calories will be converted into dollars and donated to the Hawaii Food Bank. It’s a simple way to do your part but if you need an added incentive, prizes are awarded to the top male, female and keiki donors each quarter.
The pedometer is just one of several applications free to members–there is also an odometer for tracking your miles cycled; a workout journal; a “Goalgetter” application, which helps you attain your goals by giving you reminders and motivation; a rewards application and a virtual locker room that stores your efforts and sometimes opens up to reveal secret gifts. The best part? Signing up is free and as simple as logging on.
