Best of Honolulu 2008
ALOHA / Honolulu is changing. It’s in the nature of cities to do so, but these days we seem to lose an old standby and gain a new hotspot every week. And it’s not just a shock to the system for those of us old enough to remember school days in bare feet or being left to play in the Ala Moana Shopping Center sandbox while our parents shopped–even those too young to have looked for their neighborhoods on primetime network broadcasts of Magnum P.I. are wondering how Honolulu can keep up this breakneck pace.
For Best of Honolulu 2008, we wanted to find a look that reflected that burgeoning energy while capturing the underlying magic that has always made Honolulu one of the world’s most beautiful cities. We found that look in the work of North Shore artist Heather Brown. Her work has been finding its way into galleries, living rooms and other venues for a while now, but this feels like her year. We’re naming Heather Brown our editors’ pick for Best Up & Coming Artist of 2008. We hope you enjoy her work–which graces this week’s cover as well as the page you’re now reading–in which case you cam check out more at [heatherbrownart.com].
Thanks for reading.
