Tap in
Tapped / You probably know bottled water is a no-no in environmental terms, but the consequences of the water industry–one that barely existed 20 years ago–spread far beyond pollution.
On Sunday, in connection with World Water Week, Kokua Hawaii Foundation and the University of Hawaii Cinema Series present the award-winning documentary Tapped, which traces the implications of bottled water for agriculture, health and a host of other pressing concerns. Stuart Coleman, the Eddie Would Go and Fierce Heart author who also heads up the Surfrider Foundation in Hawaii, will lead a discussion following the movie.
“There are a lot of revelations in the film that I certainly didn’t know about,” says the Cinema Series’ Don Brown, “and that I definitely think people who drink bottled water need to know about. The fact that water companies are buying up huge stashes of water, treating it as a commodity and diverting it from communities…It’s quite an eye-opener.”
See Dean Carrico’s review–he calls the film “well-made, thought-provoking and anger-inducing”–at [honoluluweekly.com].
