Killed Bills
Here are key bills on hot-button social issues that didn’t make it to a vote in the Legislature this year, despite community organizer efforts:
Same-sex marriage
No bills regarding same-sex marriage (either permitting or prohibiting it) were heard in the Senate or House.
Assisted suicide
HB 606, which would have allowed for death with dignity, was never scheduled for a hearing.
Marijuana
Several medical marijuana bills are still being considered, but bills legalizing recreational use are not (see pg. 6–7).
Congestion
HB 1357 would have required that the Director of Transportation certify sufficient highway capacity in an area before any new development is allowed.
Contraception
HB 878 would have ensured victims of sexual assault received “medically unbiased” information about, and access to, emergency contraception.
