Editor's Notes

Honolulu Weekly is changing editors this week. Our editor of the past year, Lucy Jokiel, will be leaving us to pursue a variety of new adventures, including doing research for a book about her experiences in China and playing with her three wonderful grandkids (with one more on the way). We wish her well and thank her for her good work at the Weekly.

Mindy Pennybacker will be joining us Sept. 1. She is author of Do One Green Thing: Saving the Earth Through Simple, Everyday Choices, “Econundrums” columnist for Martha Stewart’s Whole Living Magazine and a blogger for Huffington Post. Born and raised in Honolulu, she attended Thomas Jefferson Elementary and Punahou School. She holds degrees from Stanford and the King Hall School of Law at the University of Califonia Davis. She and her husband, Don Wallace, have settled in Honolulu after working as journalists in New York City for 27 years. Having edited the Weekly for a time in 2008, Mindy says her return is a long-held dream come true.

The Weekly is independent media–a rare and endangered species these days. Its investigative and consumer reporting, energetic food and culture coverage, comprehensive listings, mix of voices and community engagement are more crucial than ever in the age of media consolidation,” she says.
