Anatomy of a costume
Cherry Blossom Cabaret / Nevermind the pasties. When ladies remove their outer layers in front of an audience, no matter how, er, artistically or humorously it’s done, the focus of that ogling audience is mostly on the lovely lady lumps and humps.
But what about the glittery, sequin-drowned costumes that turn the performers into cows, lampshades, hamburgers and other amazing replications?
While the women (and sometimes men) of the local neo-burlesque troupe Cherry Blossom Cabaret have varying levels of performance experience, the costumes are a consistently striking strength of the group.
One of the troupe’s original members, Miss Catwings, modeled her extravagant hibiscus costume for the upcoming theatrical production, VarieTease: Alice in Chinatown, and shared exactly what it takes to make a costume this dreamy.
