Lunch in the tomato patch
Clear your calendar on June 14 because this is an event you’ll not want to miss. As a fundraiser for Slow Food Oahu, Jeanne Vana, owner of North Shore Farms and Slow Food Terra Madre delegate, will graciously open her farm for an elegant four-course luncheon and wine pairing, right in the middle of her Waialua tomato patch. Before the luncheon, there will be tomato dish contest and wine pairing featuring the best ingredients that the North Shore has to offer. Following the event, you’ll have the opportunity to do U-pick at her farm for heirloom tomatoes, lettuce, beans, and possibly summer squash, melons and sweet corn. If you’d like, you could take the entire day to explore the North Shore. Start by visiting the Haleiwa Farmer’s Market ([haleiwafarmersmarket.com]) earlier in the morning, or spend the late afternoon at the nearby Mokuleia Polo fields.
Sun 6/14, 12–3pm, $35 for Slow Food members and $50/nonmembers. To save your place at the table, please RSVP to [email: phillipslayden] by 6/12.
