Mango madness
Mango / Mangoes, the epitome of abundance in Hawaii, are finally getting their due. This Sunday, Makaha Resort will host the second annual Makaha Mango Festival, where you will find tastings, contests, workshops and even a mango happy hour. This event should satisfy all mango fans–growers, cooks and eaters big and small. There will be experts on hand to help you successfully produce buckets of mangoes. Pruning, grafting and diseases will be discussed. Cooks are invited to enter the competitive arena of mango chutneys, salsas, jams, ice creams, daquiris, souffles and just about any other mango foodstuff you can imagine. Sun 8/2, 12pm–7pm, free admission. More information at [makahamangofestival.com].
If you happen to be on the Kona coast this weekend, rather than Oahu’s Waianae coast, another mango festival will be held there. On Saturday 8/1, the Keauhou Shopping Center will be the site of its first Mango Festival, from 2pm–6pm. Tickets are available for a mango-inspired dinner, 6:30pm–9pm at the Keauhou Resort.
