Taste of the range
Taste of the Hawaiian Range / Saddle up! Join Big Island ranchers and paniolo for their annual meat extravaganza. On Saturday September 18, the Waikoloa Hilton will be hosting the 14th annual Taste of the Hawaiian Range. Almost always sold out, this is a showcase for island-grown products of all stripes. The cost is a reasonable $40 in advance ($80 at the door) and the Hilton is offering a pair of tickets and a room for the night for $229 plus tax.
Chefs will be challenged to make tasty dishes using all the nasty bits of the quadrupeds–from cheek to knuckle, from tongue to tail. Nothing will be wasted. Although the primary focus of Taste is meat, meat and more meat, other island foods will be offered. In years gone by, featured items have included Keahole-farmed abalone, kiawe flour, tea and honey, Volcano black tea and big island coffees ranging from Kau to Hamakua to Kona.
