Not Just Desserts / After opening numerous restaurants in Florida, New York and Hawaii, chef Kate Wagner has now opened a small shop in the heart of Chinatown. With a background in French cooking, she’s decided to bring her talent back home, and in her small café–Not Just Desserts–she carries chocolate cake, handmade chocolates and homemade cheesecakes. Taking green to a sweet, new level, Wagner says, “I’m passionate about what I do in creating healthy food with local ingredients.”
Forget about preservatives and artificial flavors; you’ll find all natural baked goods with 100 percent butter and real vanilla extract. Wagner says 75 percent of her goodies are made with products from local Hawaii farms, and among the many sugar- and gluten-free products, you can also enjoy warm bread pudding made with agave sugar or truffle brownies made without flour.
And just as the name of her business suggests, you’ll find more than just desserts. House specialties include fish, chicken, vegetable quinoa, vegan pasta and homemade lasagna.
