Work it out

For the slightly more serious athlete on your list, we like Polar heart-monitor watches, available at any number of local sporting-good stores. Heart monitors are an incredible tool to track training progress–and it’s fun to see how many calories you burn for various activities. We wore ours up Diamond Head crater and realized it was more of a workout than it felt like.
And anyone who spends a lot of time running, hiking or otherwise playing outside, appreciates that you really can feel comfortable and look cute. For professional athletic gear, brands like Under Armour are amazing. For days when we’re not partaking in triathalons, though, we prefer to spend money on duds from locally-owned companies. Crazy Shirts is an institution, and has everything from super-soft T-shirts to boardshorts made from recycled materials. We’re also totally into Barefoot League’s newly-released Flyin’ Hawaiian T-shirt, designed by Philadelphia Phillies’ All-Star and Maui native Shane Victorino. For those yoga-devotees in your life, we like Lily Lotus. Read more about the boutique on page 27.
