Don’t fight the urge

47 NORTH HOTEL ST / Fighting Eel is another locally owned label that has become an established brand, popular with locals and fashion junkies abroad. Started six years ago, Fighting Eel continues to make dresses that are simple yet sexy, with clothing that appeals to those who have an unfussy style (these dresses can be worn with heels or slippers). The stretch cotton and bold colors make Fighting Eel clothing a staple in any woman’s closet. Owners Lan Chung and Rona Bennett both attended Jefferson Elementary, but it wasn’t until they worked together at Agnes B, then located in Ala Moana Shopping Center, that the two became acquainted. When Agnes B closed, Chan and Bennett decided to make their fashion dreams a reality. Now, the design duo has showrooms in New York City and Los Angeles. Fighting Eel is designed in Honolulu produced completely in the U.S. You can find Fighting Eel at Nordstrom in Ala Moana Shopping Center and Mary Z’s in Kailua along with seven other locations across the state. Look for lower prices at the Fighting Eel headquarters in Chinatown, where past season collections are sold at discounted prices.
