INTO creativity

INTO / The Chinatown gallery and retail space INTO has everything for the urban style aficionado. INTO, which opened four years ago, features interior design elements that mix modern metropolitan aesthetics with an island perspective. Local artists like Mark Chai, who is best known for his sculpted wooden lamps, are a mainstay. Also look for koa bowls carved by renowned craftsman John Uyehara. INTO also sells other quirky home accents by popular interior designers like Jonathan Adler and John Derian. You can find funky accessories that range from purses to scarves. Owner Alan Carrell’s experience with interior, textiles and furniture design span the world, and decided to call Honolulu home after falling in love with the laid back attitude of the Islands. The inspirations for INTO are “unity, justice, peace, love and creativity,” themes that Carrell seeks out in everything he sells in his store. INTO is transforming soon into a cocktail concept boutique, with a drink menu offered alongside its popular interior design and artesian goods. Carrell and his team hope that the added libation will fuel local designers and artists to come together in a creatively conducive environment. INTO will renovate in January and reopen in the spring.
