Glamb it up
Clubs / Ever since venturing to Columbia University in 2003, he’s made a name for himself as a stand-out musician in the thriving New York City club scene, but here in Hawai’i we still like to claim Anton Glamb as one of our own. The Punahou grad and 808 skater is back on the island for the holidays. On Glamb’s MySpace page he describes himself in coy and understated terms: ‘I make music for you to listen to on your stereo or headphones or in your car. It also works pretty good at parties. If you want a special treat, come to a show and I’ll sing for you!’ Your chance comes this Friday at Indigo, and while Glamb’s music fits well into the Chinatown venue’s Get Fresh Friday dance showcase, it isn’t enough to describe Anton Glamb just as a club DJ. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Trained as a jazz and classical musician, influenced by punk rock and techno, and filtering his sound through a unique, confidently humble sensibility that may best be described as ‘Antonishness,’ Glamb creates party music for individuals who think and act for themselves. He’s performed at legendary venues like CBGB’s and The Knitting Factory in New York as well as Wave Waikiki’s Pussycat Lounge here at home. Now’s your chance to catch him in Chinatown. He’s already promised that he’ll sing for you–how can you pass that up?
