Kava jive

Hawaii Pacific Islands Kava Festival / You may not be hearing The Manhattan Transfer crooning that old Ink Spot hit, “Java Jive,” this Saturday, but if you could, it might sound like this: “I love kava, I love grog. Mix me a mug of mud straight from a bog. Give me some grog ‘til my tongue’s in a fog–a bowl, a bowl, a bowl, a bowl, a bowl. Yum!”
Okay, so kava might not get you singing, but ‘awa as we call it here (“grog” to Fijians), has many good things going for it, including its own festival. This annual event brings kava connoisseurs together with roots purveyors to share the joys of numb mouth and mild euphoria. Keeping the mood mellow will be music by Ernie Cruz Jr., Brett Shimabuku, Carly Smith, and others, as well as food, arts and craft booths.
Myth of kava origin
Intro of the film “Kava - the drink of the gods” by Thorolf Lipp. The sequence of the film deals with a myth that says how kava came into being in Pentecost, Vanuatu.
