Who do voodoo?

Voodoo Glow Skulls / Among bands in contention for the “mystifyingly obscure name” award–nominees include Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head and Fuck Buttons–Voodoo Glow Skulls may just take the cake. This Sunday, the grammatically indifferent sextet will perform at spelling-indifferent Anna Bannana’s, but who’s complaining? After all, these trailblazers of the Ska Punk movement practically gave birth to the genre in 1988, finding a delicate balance between the jazz-infused reggae of ska, and the in-your-face aggression of punk. If you don’t think these California natives will be able to handle a local crowd, no worries. Voodoo Glow Skulls got its start playing with Angry Samoans–yes, another contender for the aforementioned award, considering none of its members are actually Samoan–and this go around, will share the stage with Old Habits Die Hard, a punk rock trio from Maui.
