American history Y
Stripes and Stars / By now you’ve learned that history is usually written by the winners, resulting in the immortalization of one-sided accounts of events in textbooks, movies and other media. That’s just one reason it’s a good idea to teach the young how to critically analyze history, and Honolulu Theatre for Youth presents a fun, age-appropriate way of doing so with Stripes and Stars. Multi-talented and award-winning historian, writer and storyteller James B. McCarthy presents a 55-minute song, dance and comedy show that takes twists on traditionally-known American history. What if the Civil Rights movement was recounted in a ghost story? If the Revolutionary War was remembered through focusing on the women who fought? The show will be enough brain food for the keiki to learn and be entertained, but not long enough to make them restless. Just what McCarthy ordered.
