It was an (after) dark and stormy night
ARTafterDARK / Darkness and Halloween have gone together like Balloon Boy’s family and media attention since the days of yore. Combine the Halloween spirit with the antics of the Honolulu Academy of Art’s ARTafterDARK series (it’s always confusing which parts of the title are capitalized…artAFTERdark? ArTafTerDaRk?), and you get the theme of “All Hallow’s Eve.” Like any other month’s artsy, cougar-laden event, you’ll find town restaurant’s creative, tasty small plates and Downtown’s specialty cocktails. What will stand out about this month’s party will be the fact that all art galleries will be closed “in anticipation of large costumes.” For most people, that might be OK. You just go for the booze anyway, right?
The event will also be the last ARTafterDARK of 2009. So if that lady in the cheetah-print mini dress has caught your eye during the past couple of months, take the tunes kicked out by DJ Benzi of Michigan and the Nocturnal Sound Krew to sidle up and dance. Don’t be shy–you can wear a mask this time.
