Challenge

25th Annual Ala Wai Challenge / Believe it or not, there are people in Hawaii who never trek anywhere near Waikiki unless they have to. It’s either too touristy for them or congested with traffic. Whatever the reason, don’t fall into that crowd. Get out and enjoy the Waikiki Community Center’s (WCC) 25th Annual Ala Wai Challenge this weekend. The Ala Wai Challenge is a sports fundraiser for the WCC, which offers programs and social services to people of all ages. So if you’re hoping to burn off all those Christmas cookies you ate this winter, you’re in luck. In teams of 12, competitors will canoe race down the Ala Wai Canal and compete in ancient Hawaiian makahiki games–including huki kaula (tug-of-war). But for those who aren’t as athletically inclined, don’t worry, there will be lots of food, arts and crafts booths, and entertainment all day long.
