Undercover art action
University of Hawaii Art Gallery / Leave your inhibitions, expectations and the kids at home for a new exhibition featuring artwork by graduate students at the University of Hawaii. Artists include Jeannie Randall, whose recent Suicide Kings mural on Hotel Street is familiar to many denziens of the downtown scene. In her newest work, Randall explores a multitude of media while challenging the viewer’s personal boundaries.
“I want to dive into the private experience, and tease the viewer into interaction with a subject they usually keep under the covers,” says Randall in her artist statement. Exposing intimacy from a visual and external place, Randall explores how one’s thoughts are projected and cultivated.
Works in glass, fiber, print-making, painting and photography will be displayed during the two-week exhibit. The show begins with an opening celebration on Sunday, 1/17, from 3–5pm.
University of Hawaii Art Gallery, 2535 McCarthy Mall, 1/17–2/5, Mon–Sat 10:30am-5pm, Sun Noon–5pm, free, [hawaii.edu], 956-6888
