Straight from the horse’s mouth
From the Horse’s Mouth–Hawaii / This weekend, a smorgasbord of worldwide dance arrives, local-style. Check out the entrees: hula, Thai, capoeira, Balkan, samba, Chinese, tango, bharatanatyam, ballet, hip-hop, Korean and more. Thirty select local dancers serve up the sauce in From the Horse’s Mouth–Hawaii. New York-based choreographers Tina Croll and Jamie Cunningham cooked up Horse’s Mouth and deliver servings of it nationwide. Think A Chorus Line, but without the singing. Each performer recounts a personal story, then dances.
The local talent? Here’s a soupçon to savor: Vicky Takamine, Cheryl Flaharty, Marie Takazawa, Gregg Lizenbery, Peter Espiritu, Celia Chun, Yuki Shiroma, Cocoa Chandelier (and two dozen more).
