Yowza YOZA

YOZA / At the age of 5, most children experiment with sticking gum in their hair and tasting their snot. Yoza Allen, better known as YOZA, began learning the ukulele. By the age of 10 she was performing with Roy Sakuma’s Super Keiki, a children’s group showcasing the brightest talent of the award-winning uke studio. Add a teenage career on the saxophone and skills on the guitar, and the Oahu-born musician becomes a formidable contender in the local music scene.
In 2006, YOZA began strumming the acoustic guitar, accompanied by a brand of raspy vocals that can only be described as acoustic soul. Drawing inspiration from Stevie Wonder and India Arie, she continues to hone her skills on the live circuit with Hoku Award-winning producer Shawn Pimental.
Apartment 3 will feature YOZA as this week’s guest at the Listening Party. It will be an opportunity to experience her uncanny style in a perfect pau hana setting. This former Super Keiki just might be Honolulu’s next queen of soul.
