Heart and Soul
Concerts / “Rescue Me.” “Baby Love.” “I’ll Be There.” No, these aren’t the canned affirmations you find on those tiny pastel confectionery hearts. They’re the candy-coated titles of some of Motown’s greatest hits, and we heard it through the grapevine that this Valentine’s Day you can find the brassy Detroit sound in the beating heart of Chinatown.
With a nine-piece band of backup singers and a horn section, relive that golden era of music at Motown: A Big Band Live Tribute, where soul and pop music fit hand in hand, like yours and your lil’ Valentine’s.
An idea sparked over local singers KC and Yoza’s mutual love for their parents’ Motown records, expect an evening truly heartfelt in more ways than one. “I know this music way better than I know anything new and coming out, or music from any other decade for that matter,” says KC. With Yoza, “we crafted a dream concert that we would love to go see.”
This holiday, order a DeAngelo Martini from the bar, clink glasses with Cupid and stop! in the name of love as musicians Antonia Alvarez, Big Mox, Kaleo Del Sol, Paula Fuga, Kahnma K, KC of Kings of Spade, Kena Sage, Simple Souls and Yoza romance the stage and the crowd with their renditions of classics by The Supremes, The Manhattans, The Jackson 5 and many more.
Don’t have a significant other to nuzzle up to in between sets? “A date is not crucial at all!” KC insists. “All my homies will be there and none of us have dates. Stag or not, it’s going to be a killer showcase.” Xoxo.
