Concerts & Clubs / The in-the-now rapper, Tyga, isn’t necessarily fond of giant striped felines. It’s the universal figure some of us call God that inspired Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson’s stage name, an acronym for Thank You God Always.
The 22-year old up-and-coming hip hop star from Compton, Cali. and his Careless World Tour make a stop in Honolulu at the Blaisdell Concert Hall this Thursday. With over 13 mixtapes, (the biggest of which is a collab with Chris Brown entitled “Fan of a Fan” and a chart-rocking smash single, “Rack City”), the swag fuse is about to get lit.
In the new world of rap super-cliques, Tyga, who also goes by T Raw the Ruler, is of Vietnamese and Jamaican decent, and one of the top flight illest signed with the label Young Money Cash Money Billionaires. With a crew that includes front man ‘Lil Wayne and top acts like all-world pop mega-stars Nicki Minaj and Drake, expectations are high for Tyga as he tries to contrive his own niche.
Intending to do the “new swag rap era” justice in the 808, (straight after ripping Rock The Bells in San Bernadino last Saturday), Tyga appears to be well on his way to entertaining more than just the Islands.
Having tapped a seven-figure deal with Reebok, his own shoe and clothing line and a recent engagement to one of the most famous strippers in Miami, I can only hope some of his good luck will rub off on me.
Label mate Glasses Malone is planning to hit the stage too, and if that isn’t enough, there’s an official afterparty at Zanzabar. Tyga fly there.
