Get Culture
Galleries / The last two times I visited a museum, I was on assignment. With all the reporting and interviewing, there was hardly time to appreciate the culture contained within and on the walls.
More than 1,400 museums across the country will join together to celebrate Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live! Here in Hawai’i, nine museums including Queen Emma Summer Palace, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii and ‘Iolani Palace will open their doors. For free.
You and a friend, family member, or hot, smart date can spend one full day touring the museums: All you need to do is go online to download a ticket. (You can’t beat that–even Charlie had to buy two Wonka bars.) Go explore King Kalakaua’s Throne Room, learn about the multi-generational history of local Japanese or check out Queen Emma’s beautiful quilts.
