In the Night Kitchen

For Poni Askew, CEO and Founder of StreetGrindz, and mastermind behind the wildly popular Eat The Street food truck extravaganza, “excited” is an understatement as her next project nears birth, having been in the works for more than a year and a half. Honolulu Night + Market, Askew’s next, highly anticipated, cultural event, will showcase the best of food, art, fashion and music–all within the creative sphere of a market.

“We’ve had people wanting to do retail…to provide a multi-level night market experience,” Askew explains of the genesis of Honolulu’s newest market. “It became very apparent that a venue was necessary for these creative avenues.” Saturday’s opening night will be a block party spanning the length of Auahi Street, and include an impressive DJ line up, featuring NY-based DJ Rekha, known for her fusion of Indian bhangra and hip-hop. After its grand opening, Honolulu Night + Market will continue every third Saturday. Askew hopes that this “collaborative of creatives in one event” will go as viral as Eat the Street did.
