Stage / Rip the plug out of the socket and prepare yourself to soak in the acoustic sound of Bar Seven, the popular Kapiolani Boulevard hotspot that transforms into a hotbed for the island’s most aspiring live musicians and bands. Open Mic: Tournament Edition is like a battle-of-the-bands with an acoustic twist. With a max of 20 entrants per night, it’s like a mini music festival.
As for selecting the best of the bunch, it’s based on the standard guidelines of most contests: originality, stage presence, overall performance and crowd participation serve as the determining factors. Bringing the freshest mix of crispy tunes and your loudest friends and family will be of the utmost importance.
There will be two weeks of preliminary rounds with the top act winning a $100 cash prize. The top five best acts from each week advance to the Open Mic Finals to be held on Oct. 7 with a shot at winning the coveted $500 winner-take-all cash prize.
