Monkin’ Around
On Stage / High flyin’ martial arts and movie stunt-like acrobatics characterize the mysterious Shaolin Temple of China’s Henan Province, soon to visit our little haven of Honolulu.
The 22 Buddhist monks of The Shaolin Warriors appear again on the Hawaii Theatre stage for seven nights of shows to kick off a 44-city nationwide tour.
The name of this traveling show is “Voices of the Masters”–a visual caravan of ballet-like graceful swiftness with the power and frenetic spectacle of modern kung fu. Every move is loaded with meaning as the monks seek to reconcile these new moves with the traditional and historical teachings passed down over centuries.
Opening night benefits the Palolo Chinese Home; $5 from each ticket sold will be donated to the 17-story senior care facility in Palolo Valley.
