Concerts & Clubs / I’m a sucker for indie artists who take a grassroots approach to stardom and success rather than 15 seconds of star power on Shark Tank. Perhaps it’s the ole’ rags-to-riches story I admire–garage band plays local party, plays local dive bar, plays three dozen college parties and finally gets a real gig which leads to another real gig which finally leads to an epic gig in Hawaii with record royalties drizzling in by the following winter.
That’s a pretend version of the story behind Rebelution, a reggae band with an actual roots IQ. Technically sound, and a passion for the craft, these guys have what it takes for–get this–growth, and staying power in this thing we call a musical evolution.
One listen to their debut album, Courage to Grow, and you’ll be buying tix to the upcoming Red Star Music Festival at The Waterfront at Aloha Tower. Joining Rebelution is Collie Buddz, the buzz-worthy reggae artist from Bermuda whose self-title debut album burst through the charts like a wasp on fallen fruit.
Buddz and Rebelution will have visited three of our neighbors before coming to Oahu, so expect a finale varying between driving reggae-rock riffs, mellow roots rhythms and a whole lotta island-inspired swaying.
