If that code of All Caps didn’t leave you with your eyes crossed, then chances are you aren’t blind to the news that Odd Future is making their way to the 808.

The Los Angeles alternative hip hop collective of 12–Tyler the Creator, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Frank Ocean, Syd tha Kyd, Matt Martians, Hal Williams, Jasper Dolphin and Taco–has been making choppy waves in the underground indie rap scene since it formed in ‘07 with their disorienting, psychotic sound.

Over the years, the rowdy radicals’ experimental mixtapes and self-awarely hostile stage antics have made them contemporary go-to voices in hip hop for the post-modern generation (hip hopomo?), culling a cult following on- and offline. Their popularity has led the group to visibly wider channels other than just for releasing music–Tyler, Frank, Left Brain, and Hodgy Beats all have studio label albums–but they also dabble in sketch comedy on Adult Swim, an art and clothing pop-up shop and an Odd Future carnival.

Not unlike the Tumblr feeds and music blogs that fuel their fire, Odd Future is a contradictory complex of genres, subcultures and beats–a multiple-choice question where the answer is always “none” and “all of the above.”
