Fab Freakery
Halloween / Halloween is a holiday for the creative. Whether you’re carving your masterpiece into a pumpkin, decorating your house with masterfully dripped blood and intricately woven cobwebs or dressing up as whatever is scarier than a pregnant Snooki (maybe Snooki with twins?), it takes a bit of ingenuity. That’s why the perfect event to truly appreciate the art of it all is at the Honolulu Museum of Art’s ARTafterDARK: Freak Out party this weekend.
Closing out the ninth season of AAD, this month’s theme exploits everything that is freaky, yet classy (it’s at a museum of fine art, after all). With an Instagram costume contest (25 winners get prizes from sponsor Waikiki Parc with a grand prize of two nights at the hotel), a showing of Little Shop of Horrors, delectable treats from Indigo Restaurant & Bar and Nobu Waikiki, performances by Taimane Gardner and Quadraphonix, Spalding House’s ARTCLUB finals, photo booths and, of course, access to the museum’s exhibitions, you’ll be shrieking with delight at how much fun the art world has on their holiday.
Don’t forget to duck into the Doris Duke Theatre after the festivities for the Zombiethon! film series’ first screening, Voodoo Island (9pm).
