Dead or Alive
When that photo of those three stars aligning over the pyramids went viral last week, I couldn’t help but get excited. They’re getting ready! I thought. It’s time! The aliens are taking their planet back, and finally an epic, out-of-this-world event will happen on 12/21/2012! I didn’t want to learn it was bogus. It’s more exciting than scary (because we all know it’s not going to happen).
Luckily, there is an event we can count on: The End of the World Block Party in Chinatown will feature music, vendors and performances. SKILLZTALK and Bboy In Shanghai will perform dance exhibitions before their finals on Dec. 22 on one of the five stages, while other stages will have EDM, island and rock music. Jet Setter Joe Agogo will host live music with just about every local band that exists, including Harshist, Mano Kane, Black Square, False Crack, Extra Stout and more at Nextdoor. SoHo Mixed Media Bar will roll out their 3rd annual Naughty List with performances by Kutski, Jordan Suckley and Alex Zelenka. My favorite part of all of this is Darby Murphy’s Santa Bike Ride, meeting at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand at 5:30 to ride through Waikiki to Chinatown. She encourages everyone to dress like Santa, elves or reindeer. Holiday cheer to our (un)certain doom! Hey, we’ve lived a pretty full life. There’s no reason why we can’t all go down together.
