You Had Me at Yogi
Festivals & Fairs / Surfers love yoga almost as much as they love barrels. Getting loose and finding balance enhances game in the water. The Wanderlust Festival, a producer of large-scale yoga, music and wellness events throughout the nation, is coming to Oahu’s north shore with musical performances, yoga workshops and outdoor activities.
“Yoga’s purpose,” according to surf legend Gerry Lopez, “is to open a doorway to self-discovery and an enlightened state of being at a time that is appropriate for each individual life.”
Lopez and surf pro Rochelle Ballard will teach yoga alongside top yogis Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste, Eoin Finn and Schuyler Grant. Evening musical performances by ALO, John Cruz, DJ Drez, Michael Franti & Friends and Paula Fuga will accentuate Wanderlust’s Sea to Table Dinner–food with a focus on yogic diets.
“Beyond surfing,” says festival co-founder Sean Hoess, “this will certainly be the first Wanderlust to offer ‘ukulele lessons and authentic hula instruction. We’ve also got an amazing lecture series focused on educating our attendees about Hawaiian culture, from the art of carving a Hawaiian surfboard to ancient Hawaiian mythology.”
