Women’s Day
Extras / There are some phrases that will never lose their thunder. “Girl power” is one of them. There’s a reason why you can still say it and all the ladies in the room will stand up a little taller. The power of a woman is like nothing else in the universe.
Devon Shore Hughes knows and is very passionate about it. So much so, she’s pulled together a brilliant collective of females in the art, music and fashion worlds to celebrate their wicked talent and give back to our community. Her Modern Dames Society will host its first event, Gals for Good, to raise money for Planned Parenthood.
“I really just want to make a night where people in the downtown music/art scene could get together to give back,” she told the Weekly. “I really hope that this becomes an annual event for International Women’s Day, and I hope to throw a couple more events throughout the year, benefiting other local organizations.”
A colossal lineup of both well-known and up-and-coming female artists includes Marika Emi, Kelsey Hughes, Dana Paresa and Julia Cornell. Buy clothing by Mishap and hear music by Afternoon Delight’s Timo Lee.
