The Neil deal
Critical letter writers should take a closer look at the working conditions on Guam before slinging the anti-union talking points toward Congressman Neil Abercrombie.
Are they aware the government of Guam is paid $1,000 for every foreign laborer brought in? That’s essentially a bounty that creates the incentive to outsource as many jobs as possible.
Unscrupulous contractors pay these foreign workers minimal wages, give them no benefits and house them in tents.
Mr. Abercrombie is working to stop this exploitation and at the same time boost the American economy by garnering higher wages to build a new American military base on Guam.
This is not a case of helping unions at the expense of taxpayers. Rather this is an opportunity to generate American jobs and stimulate the national economy, provide our military families with the best and stop exploitive behavior that goes against our national values.
