Roll the dice
This year, I find the rabble-rousers around local politics to be of the theocratic nature, rather than that of political consciousness. HB 444 was the first victim, and now, the issue of gambling is in the crosshairs of the same moral lynch mob. Hawaii is in a state of deficit until 2011. Legalized gambling now could correct the state’s budget shortfalls immediately! But all I’ve been hearing in open forums and community-board panels are how gambling causes a moral disintegration. Hawaii needs a form of legalized gambling to encourage investment in the local job market. Las Vegas is not an affordable image for Hawaii to adopt but I believe with the right combination of Hawaii’s natural beauty, incentive to win big and the right governing bodies, Hawaii can rebound from the recession rather than wallow in it.
