Shame
I sat last Friday having a beer at my favorite watering hole when two people sauntered up to the bar next to me wearing rainbow leis. I thought of them as tourists and asked if they were visiting. No, the lady replied, we just came in after seeing the State House defer any action on the civil union bill, effectively killing the bill for this session.
To that I commiserated with them and we went on to say what cowardly bastards those politicians are. First, you marginalize people, then you dehumanize them, before eventually killing them. Don’t believe it? Check out the recently passed death-penalty law in Uganda against those who engage in homosexual acts, influenced, as it turns out, by members of the Christian right in the U.S. It can’t happen here? Think again.
