Save Turtle Bay
I am a teacher at Farrington High, currently teaching environmental science to a small group of students in our Hawaiian Academy. We have been learning about and discussing proposed development at Turtle Bay (“Turtle Bay SOS,” Jan. 9). We feel that we don’t need another Waikiki on this island, and would like the Country to still be Country for ourselves and our kids. Gotta protect and respect the ‘aina! Let’s make Hawaii the best example for the world of how to live sustainably!

Turtle Bay was built by Hilton when they thought Hawaii would pass gambling. It is shoddy. The front of the building fell off into the ocean! The rooms in an apartment building type structure were terribly moldy. This place should never have been built on this special and sacred land! No to any expansion. Make them toe the line and care for what they already have built.

I just hope somebody wakes up before it’s all gone! We are the only species that systematically destroys our own habitat. Doesn’t the hotel realize by not building more they can charge more for the rooms they already have if the demand is that high. NO MORE BUILDING @ NORTH SHORE!

Let’s not forget the traffic impact.
