Harness the sun
The great disappointment about industrial wind projects (“Wind Power Players,” Feb. 27) is that they don’t lower greenhouse gas generation or fossil fuel use, because wind is so erratic that fossil fuel plants often have to run extra hard to back up wind projects. But industrial wind has horrible environmental, cultural and social impacts, makes people sick and drives them from their homes–at a huge taxpayer subsidy. What Hawaii needs is solar generation and hot water on every roof, but HECO and its pals the Governor and Legislature don’t want that, because HECO will go broke. Great Britain just cancelled all future wind projects, saying their impact is worse than climate change.
