Lemongrass Café
The former home of Paradise Produce has been reborn as Lemongrass Café at the Pacific Gateway Center. This nonprofit is a touchstone for recent immigrants making their Hawaii transition. Within the Center is a culinary incubator which just opened a new café. Monday’s menu is Burmese, Tuesday’s Singaporean, Wednesday’s Laotian, Thursday’s Indonesian. Fridays are potluck–you might find any of these cuisines on the menu. Prices are very reasonable ($6 per plate lunch), and the menu looks ‘ono. This facility serves as a training ground for women who have culinary skills but need more experience to succeed in Hawaii’s job market—or to start new businesses as entrepreneurs.
