Betty is back
Betty Pang, of Green Door fame, has finally settled on a new location in Chinatown. This January she left Kahala and will soon reopen at her new and only location on Nuuanu Avenue, across the street from Indigo. The new space, like the first, is small and pleasantly decorated with traditional Malay motifs. Downtown regulars missed Betty’s wonderful Nyonya food when she left Chinatown and will welcome back her exotically spiced and fragrant dishes of Straits Chinese origin.
Royal’s Azure
Jon Matsubara, former chef at Stage and protege of Roy Yamaguchi, is now exhibiting his culinary charms at the Royal Hawaiian’s new showcase restaurant, Azure. The completely remodeled dining room offers splendid ocean views and salt air. Its menu’s focus is fresh Pacific shellfish and finned fish–including Kona lobster, Big Island abalone, Alaskan king crab, ‘opakapaka and ‘ahi. –Laurie V. Carlson
