Maona for Dad
Alan Wong’s Pineapple Room is offering a Father’s Day brunch with uka plenny “manly” dishes–like Chinese pork roast, North Shore cattlemen’s sloppy joes, and Maui Cattle Co. steak and eggs. But even the vegetarian teenager in the family will find satisfying locally grown treats. The cost is $45 per adult; free for keiki under 6; half price for keiki 6–12. Sunday, June 21, 9am–3pm. 945-6573.
Hiroshi mon
Hiroshi’s is offering another locally focused Father’s Day opportunity. Their June special four-course menu (Sundays and Mondays only, $35) is definitely on the briney side, with local shrimp, abalone and mon chong. Be sure to mention this special menu when making reservations. 5:30–9:30pm. 533-4476.
Farm fair days
The Hawaii State Farm Fair will be at Bishop Museum once again this year. Save the dates–July 18 & 19. The fair has refocused on agriculture and left behind the E.K. Fernandez rides. Expect to find instead homemade breads and jams, a livestock show and auction, corn husking and watermelon-eating competitions, along with some fabulous food.
