Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants in Hawaii
This Saturday, Bruce Neyers, national sales manager of the near-mythical Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants, will be at Vino for a couple of wine events this Saturday. Kermit Lynch pioneered the importation of unfiltered wines as well as shipping them in refrigerated containers to keep their flavors intact. His Berkeley wine store was launched at just about the same time that Alice Waters started Chez Panisse. They became fast friends and have continued to influence each other over the years. These two businesses have been at the heart of California’s food revolution.
Neyers will be conducting a tasting of five wines from his vineyard, Neyers Winery. Chuck Furuya swears by this winery, saying that Neyers is one of the top three Napa producers. Following the wine tasting, Chef Endo will create a four-course dinner that will be accompanied by three wines from Kermit Lynch’s portfolio. This dinner will be served at two communal tables of 10 each. The cost of the wine tasting is $45, the dinner $75, not including tax or gratuities. 533-4476 for reservations.
Wining & unwinding
Town continues to host its Wine Down Wednesdays. The cost is a modest $25 and generally includes four wines and four food pairings to complement them. Earlier this month some unique Greek wines were presented, along with the likes of Meyer lemon soup and grilled halloumi cheese. A creative cocktail included if you arrive before 6:30pm when the main event gets underway. 735-5900 for reservations.
