Want to help others enjoy the local food that you get to purchase every week at the farmers’ market? The Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation will be partnering with a new project called Giving It Fresh Today (G.I.F.T.) to help you do so. Beginning on Saturday, January 2, G.I.F.T. will have a one-month trial booth at the Kapiolani Community College’s Farmers’ Market, where patrons can make in-kind donations to community organizations that serve meals to the homeless. E-mail [email: giveitfreshtoday] or call 282-0053 to volunteer or for more information.
There’s a new BLT in town, and it doesn’t involve bacon. Along with the arrival of the Trump International hotel in Waikiki comes BLT Steak, with the acronym standing for Bistro Laurent Tourondel. Chef and restaurateur Tourondel was named 2007 Restauteur of the Year by Bon Appétit magazine. Look forward to enjoying prime cuts of beef, fresh seafood, a variety of side dishes and classic American desserts.
BLT Steak, Trump International Waikiki Hotel, 223 Saratoga Rd., Sun–Thu 5:30–10pm, Fri–Sat 5:30–11pm, [bltrestaurants.com], 683-7440
