Ahoy, maties. Safeway and Whole Foods have been recognized for ecologically conscious seafood buying and handling practices with the 2012 Carting Away the Oceans Award, the first time supermarkets have received the award since its creation in 2008. Both chains have employed consulting partners to help improve their briny correctness.
Cook the books. Cookbooks written and designed in the Islands will be honored at the May 11 Ka Palapala Pookela Awards at Bishop Museum. Oh, and all those other book categories, too!
The food of love. Madre Chocolates in Kailua has two timely events coming up: a truffle-making class May 21 so you can give Mom hand-made chocolates (a little late but chocolate knows no timetable) and a whiskey and chocolate pairing (with the Wine Stop) June 17 for Father’s Day (who needs another T-shirt?).
