Change, we can: Concerned about the Farm Bill making its way through the U.S. Senate, California-based Roots of Change is seeking endorsement of a letter that urges the Senate to revise the bill to steer it toward making healthy foods more available and affordable rather thans subsidizing farming of commodity crops.

Quinoa try someting new?: ‘Alewa Heights vegan personal chef Alyssa Moreau is representing TruRoots organically grown, GMO-free quinoa products, offering recipes that go beyond the usual steamed starch: Quinoa Smoothies, made with rice and soy milks and frozen berries, for example. They also do sprouted rice, lentils and mung beans and chia seeds.
Pesky: If you noticed a lack of basil in stores at farmers’ markets, it’s due to the discovery recently that some local farms were using illegal pesticides on the crops. A team from the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources is working with farmers to identify alternatives and get our pesto and pho garnish back on track.
