Mahalo and Aloha. Grand Cafe and Bakery closed its retro-diner doors in Chinatown yesterday and is seeking a new location. Meanwhile, Chef Tony Vierra will continue catering, offering everything from breakfasts to bentos. (The lemon cake is not lost to us, or that amazing caramel corn!).

Say Cheese. Naked Cow Dairy is going to let the public get a look at the expanded cheesemaking facilities donors helped acquire through an [indiegogo.com] campaign with July 14 and 21 dairy farm dinners mastermined by chef and cheesemaker Gida Snyder. Tour and cheese-driven dinner, $55; sign up at the Honolulu Farmers Market; 4-7 p.m. Wednesdays, Blaisdell Concert Hall lawn.

Big Aloha Brewing. Aloha Beer Co.’s new brewpub was born last week in what used to be warehouse space next door to Sam Choy’s Breakfast, Lunch & Crab. Eight different beers and food from a few steps down the hall in Sam’s kitchen. It’s a whole new company, owned by James Lee and Steve Sombrero with Dave Campbell as the brewman.

Color Them Orange. The Kahala Hotel has announced the opening of a new Neopolitan-Japanese fusion restaurant, coming in early 2013: Arancino, meaning “orange blossom.” It will occupy the former Tokyo, Tokyo spot just off the circle fronting the hotel.
